Mixing bowls and whisks at the ready, let the Macmillan Coffee Morning begin!
The Macmillan Coffee Morning Bake-off returned for a second time with the same enthusiasm as last year. We had 11 entries all wanting to be crowned the ‘True Bearing Star Baker’. We also wanted to smash the monies raised in 2018.
This year we ran two events. The first event was the Bake-off at the offices here at True Bearing together with the sale of cakes and raffle. We also ran a coffee morning at an external meeting where we took the cakes to our advisers to help raise further funds.
We raised a fantastic £327 for Macmillan Cancer, smashing last year’s target.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
The ‘bake-off’ is one of the many fundraising activities organised by the True Bearing team. The Macmillan Cancer charity is one of the largest British charities which provides specialist healthcare, information, and support to people affected by cancer. The Macmillan Coffee Morning is always a great deal of fun and enjoyed by all the staff involved.
Our Bake-off Winners
Best Decorated Cake – Star Baker, Demi Baines
Best Flavoured Cake – Star Baker, Jayne Lilley
2nd place – Judy Marshall
3rd place – Liz Armstrong
The event was organised by Liz Armstrong and Demi Baines. Demi said: “This was my first year helping organise this event, and I couldn’t wait to show off my baking skills. We had 11 bakers taking part across 2 categories and they all wanted to win the prestigious True Bearing title of ‘Star Baker’. I couldn’t believe I won Best Decorated Cake.”
Paula McKeever also baked an amazing cake for our raffle which was won by our Chairman, George Critchley.
The cakes were sold off and all proceeds went to the Macmillan Cancer charity. There are already plans for a bigger and better Macmillan bake-off next year. Who will be crowned ‘Star Baker 2020’?
