The charity-minded staff at True Bearing, got their mixing bowls out to organise a Macmillan Coffee Morning Bake-off in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Experienced bakers and those new to baking took part to raise money for the world’s biggest coffee morning and raised a whopping £213 for the charity.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

The ‘bake-off’ was the latest in a series of fundraising activities the staff have organised this year.  The Macmillan charity is one of the largest British charities which provides specialist healthcare, information, and support to people affected by cancer.  The Macmillan Coffee morning is an annual event for the team at True Bearing.

The Bake-off Categories

The Bake-off included three categories:-

  • Best Victoria Sandwich
  • Best Decorated Cupcakes
  • Tastiest Tray Bake

The event was organised by Liz Armstrong and Zoe Butterworth.  Liz said “we had a great response to the bake-off, with eleven bakers taking part across the three categories.  The cakes were judged for springiness, flavour, overall taste – no ‘soggy bottoms’ were allowed.”

A ‘Star Baker’ was chosen from each category with Georgia Atkinson, winning ‘Best Victoria Sandwich’ with a little help from her young daughter.  ‘Best Decorated Cupcakes’ was won by Lauren Houlderness and ‘Tastiest Tray Bake’ by Lindsey Davies.

The cakes were later sold off and all proceeds went to the Macmillan charity.  There are already plans for a bigger and better Macmillan Bake-off in 2019.
